Even though he’s not the kind of actor who would go shirtless just for the sake of it, looking at Chris Pine, you just know that he’s in excellent shape. Speaking with Men’s Health, the actor admits that he does work out a lot.

He also states the obvious: he might not enjoy it that much all the time but he can’t complain about it because it’s his job to look good, stay in shape.

“I work out because that’s my job,” he states with honesty.

Of course, there are clear advantages to working out and he’s not oblivious to them.

“What I enjoy about it, beyond the vanity, is the Zen of it. I like getting out of my head: One great way is to sweat your face off. I appreciate that if you’re thinking of anything else, you’re not working intensely enough,” Pine says.

As fans must already know by now, Chris will be on the big screen again as Cpt. James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness,” the sequel to the largely successful “Star Trek” reboot.

Speaking about his first audition for the role with Men’s Health, Chris admits that he didn’t expect a call back because “[it went] as badly as you can imagine.”

“When you want something enough, it brings out primal emotions. You get into this place of ‘must happen, must happen’,” he says of going to meet with producers again for the part.

As for “Into Darkness,” which is considered the most anticipated release of the year, Pine can’t reveal more than that it will be “seriously epic,” which makes sense knowing that Abrams, who directed it, is perhaps one of the most secretive people now in the industry.

“Much more action; much, much more intensity; and a lot more fighting,” he also says.
