Warner Bros. is looking to make a movie based on the very successful television series “The Twilight Zone,” that aired originally between 1959-1964. Chris Nolan, close to the studio because of the “Batman” trilogy is reportedly the frontrunner to direct it.

Variety reports that the studio is also in talks with two other directors for the same project, assuming that Nolan’s busy schedule would make the collaboration impossible.

One of them is Michael Bay, whom the studio had been courting for some while; the other is Alfonso Cuaron, the same report argues.

“Sources say Nolan is the front-runner to get the offer, but though he has a close relationship with the studio, it’s not clear whether he’d take on the project due to his schedule and the ‘Zone’ script’s similarities to ‘Inception’,” Variety writes.

The script impediment doesn’t exist in Bay’s case, but he may have his schedule packed and be in no position to take a new project.

“Sources add that Bay and his team are high on the script, but one possible obstacle is his desire to get started on passion project ‘Pain and Gain,’ a black comedy set in the world of competitive bodybuilding,” the same media outlet writes.

“Cuaron also has a relationship with the studio, as well as the most favorable schedule. He’s wrapping up production on the space adventure ‘Gravity’ and has not committed to his next project,” adds Variety.

The darkhorse, insiders say, is Rupert Wyatt who made over $400 million (€300.14) at the box office this year with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” starring James Franco.

“Leonardo DiCaprio would produce through his Appian Way shingle, along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Michael Ireland,” Variety says.

The script is by Jason Rothenberg and, unlike the 1983 film which saw the narrative split into 4 parts directed by 4 different directors, this remake would have only one story arc and one director.
