Fans of the “Dark Knight” trilogy who hated pretty much every casting decision Warner Bros. made found some consolation in knowing that director Chris Nolan was involved as an executive producer on the upcoming “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

But that’s as far as his involvement in the DC Comics cinematic universe goes, brother Jonathan Nolan revealed during a panel for “Interstellar,” as cited by ComingSoon. Chris and Jonathan worked together on “Interstellar” and are known to be a team on most projects, which is to say that, if there’s someone who knows about Chris’ plans, that would be Jonathan.

Asked about the massive superhero universe that Warner Bros. is working on, Jonathan said: “I love those guys and my brother was involved in ‘Man of Steel’ with Zack [Snyder] and David [Goyer]. I kind of feel like that chapter for us is closed.”

He did not close the door on the possibility of Chris returning to the DC Comics movie universe after “Dawn of Justice,” but a “maybe” is by no means a guarantee that he would. First of all, Chris Nolan is a perfectionist to the core and that means that he won’t settle for a half-done job when he knows he can do it perfectly if he wants to.

If he remains involved as executive producer past “Dawn of Justice,” he will probably have less time to focus on his own projects, especially at the rate Warners is thinking of releasing superhero movies. So it’s probably safe to count Nolan out.

Until then though, “Dawn of Justice” will open in theaters in May 2016. It’s directed by “Man of Steel” helmer Zack Snyder and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Momoa, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, and Holly Hunter.

Nolan’s most recently directed film, on which he’s been working for years, “Interstellar,” opens the Friday after next, on November 7, and stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, and Matthew McConaughey.
