14 DAY TRIAL // Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin were married for 11 years and might be about to pull off the most amicable divorce in the history of showbiz. Of course, that isn’t stopping the rumor mill from turning – and the latest report claims that Chris Martin had been sleeping around on his wife. A lot.
Of course, there’s also a report that says the two had an open marriage for some time before the split, but it’s yet to be confirmed. Page Six claims to have it on very good authority that Chris, for one, did stray, whether with Gwyneth’s knowledge and approval or not, and even goes as far as to identify one of his lovers.
“NBC staff have been buzzing about an affair Martin had after appearing as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 2011 with Coldplay,” the report says.
The woman was an assistant on the show and an insider reveals that the affair was public knowledge. “He had an affair with a woman who was backstage and was part of an entourage. Everyone was talking about it because he was openly flirting with her at one of the show after-parties,” says the spy.
That would mean that, as early as 2011, Gwyneth and Chris were either having problems already or had decided to have an open marriage because monogamy wasn’t working out for them anymore. The same report says that cheating rumors go back even to 2009, when Martin was romantically linked in the press to Kate Bosworth and Kirsten Dunst.
Gwyneth too is said to have had affairs, but her rep was quick to deny all the rumors on the topic. Martin’s is still not responding to calls for comments.
Though their divorce is amicable, it still proves of great interest for the fans and the media, judging by the amount of breakup theories now making the rounds. A recent one, for example, claimed that it wasn’t the sleeping around that finally killed the romance but Gwyneth’s horrible manner towards her husband.
Admittedly, not only did she call him a “moron” in public and made fun of the things he ate, but she also insisted on not allowing their two children occasional treats like ice cream because she deemed them too unhealthy, and would always speak to him as if she were a schoolteacher.
Eventually, Chris grew tired of being treated like this and told her he wanted out, insiders claim.
