14 DAY TRIAL // Gwyneth Paltrow thought she was very clever when she made the announcement of her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin on her website and called it “conscious uncoupling.” In her mind, that phrase should have made it clear that the couple was making a joint decision and that it was not to be further investigated.
Sadly, the press had other plans. Just days after the announcement, a British tabloid posted a photo of Paltrow and one of the ex-boyfriends seemingly kissing at a baseball game. Both Gwyneth and the ex-boyfriend, Donovan Leitch, have since denied there was an affair going on at the time.
Today, it was the turn of Chris Martin to fall under the same suspicions, as an anonymous source told the New York Post that he flirted with a Saturday Night Live assistant, “He was openly flirting with her at one of the show's after-parties.”
This seemed to be in accordance with previous talk that the couple had been involved in an open relationship for years and that both of them had done their fair share of cheating. So far, it is only Gwyneth that has fallen into the attention of the press, but today, at least for the sake of keeping it fair, Martin is also being accused.
Except Chris Martin has been faster to respond to the rumors by having his assistant deny the allegations made in the American press. The singer's representative, Murray Chalmers, told The Mirror that the cheating rumor “is completely untrue, we totally deny it.”
Unfortunately for Martin, this isn't the first time he's been pinned with cheating rumors. Previously, he was accused of having a romance with a presenter from UK TV by the name of Alexa Chung. The gossip started when they were spotted backstage at the Glastonbury Festival last year.
Then there was that whole thing that set off a completely different kind of hearsay, this time with actress Kate Bosworth.
With all the rumors being thrown around, both on her and his behalf, if only one turns out to be true, it means that their marriage had indeed ended a long time ago, and they were both sticking to it just for the sake of appearances and for their two small children.
Among the other reasons being cited as a cause for the breakup are their conflicting schedules and their tiresome workload. Martin was often gone away for long stints in London, whereas Gwyneth spent most of her days in Los Angeles.
