The news that Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow were calling it quits on their 10-year-long marriage literally came out of nowhere, as the usually secretive couple revealed to the world by means of the actress' website Goop that they had mutually agreed to split up.

There was so much attention from the press that the news managed to bring down the Goop site temporarily as major news agencies directed their traffic to the short, candid statement called “Conscious Uncoupling.”

Now, there are reports that the Coldplay front man was left devastated by the split that both shocked and caused him severe anguish. Hollywoodlife quotes an insider who says “Chris is devastated. He suggested counseling, he even suggested they move back to London but ultimately that just didn't work for them.”

The musician thought that a change of scenery would benefit the couple that was stuck in a rut “This has been a long time coming,” says the same source as the focus now turns towards the couple's two children, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.

This also seems to be the thought on Martin's mind as well, as he's said to be preoccupied of minimizing the impact the divorce is going to have on their children. Picking up the pieces of his marriage, Chris is now going to have “to figure out custody because he loves those kids more than anything. He's very hurt.”

Some people have pointed out some similarities with Martin's current situation in his new song “Magic.” In it, the singer laments being “broken in two” by his partner, yet he has the power to call their romance “magic.”

The full verse goes something like this: “Call it magic/ Call it true/ Call it magic/ When I’m with you/ And I just got broken/ Broken into two/ Still I call it magic,” and if it's truly related to his real life situation that it's obviously clear that Chris is still very much in love with his wife and the song is a swan song of their marriage.

Taking this into consideration, it looks like previous speculations that the message casually signed “Gwyneth & Chris” that explained their break up is actually written more by Gwyneth and Chris is just listed there to make it seem more like it's a mutual agreement.

“We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner,” asks the writer of the message.
