The actor won't be replaced by a woman to mirror the reality depicted in the comics

If you love the Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the mighty God of Thunder, Thor, you should know that his part in the Marvel movie franchise won't be affected by the radical changes announced for the comic book version.

In case you haven't found out yet, here's the scoop: Marvel plans to turn Thor into a woman since the man is no longer “worthy” of wielding his mighty hammer. Understandably, fans weren't very excited by the idea and expressed their fury at this decision.

However, producers involved in the movie franchise have told Daily Mail that Chris is safe for the moment, since they don't plan to follow the storyline in the comic books. “Chris won't be going anywhere for quite a while,” screenwriter Christopher Markus has said in an interview.

Screenwriter Stephen McFeely has confirmed the news, “Maybe eventually we'll see a female Thor in the movies - it's not impossible - and we'd love to see it. But Chris Hemsworth is Thor in the cinema universe.”

The sound you've just heard is a collective sigh of release from fans across the world, who were thinking that Chris would be booted from the franchise and replaced with a buxom blond by the name of She-Thor.

But that doesn't mean that a female version of Thor is definitely out of the question in the cinematic universe. Quite the contrary, since several people involved in making the movies, including Avengers director Joss Whedon, have expressed interest in following up on this new direction.

Whedon even posted a tweet about the matter and included a photo of actress Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica, who McFeely described as a favorite for the part if it ever came to that. Sackhoff had been previously linked with rumors that she might be the new Mr. Marvel on screen, but those rumors have yet to reach fruition.

Come to think about it, it makes sense to keep Hemsworth in the Thor suit, since his franchise is making mad money for the studio, and his movies are constantly hitting up the box office for record sums. To throw that away and try on a new experiment is not good business in Hollywood.

As a testament to his popularity, Chris Hemsworh has just landed in the top five earning actors in Hollywood, while the first spot has been nabbed by another Marvel actor, Robert Downey Jr., famous for his role as Iron Man, among others.
