Chris Evans was paired with Jeremy Renner for the latest round of interviews to promote the new Marvel movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and a video from Digital Spy is making the rounds online, getting the fans very angry.

As you can see in the video below, right at the start of the interview, they were asked about Black Widow / Natasha Romanoff and how she flirted with both Hawkeye and Captain America, only to settle for The Hulk in this film.

Renner calls her the S-word, sending Evans into a fit of giggles, right before he too calls her names. Renner adds that she’s always flirting with someone, and that she will always be that kind of a sidekick (i.e. not as good or on equal footing as the guys she’s on the team with).

The samples included below are proof that some people on Twitter and Tumblr are taking serious offense with this type of remark.

That’s not to say that Renner and Evans lack defenders, though: many point out that they’re most likely being sarcastic, having grown tired of being asked the same question about Black Widow over and over again.

Others note that, even if they’re in earnest, they have a right to make a joke without political correctness forcing them into an apology they do not mean. Last but not least, some say, we should not forget that they’re joking about a fictional character: has it really come to this that we can’t crack jokes about characters that don’t even exist?

Check out the video and see for yourself what the big deal is.
