Chris Evans, undoubtedly one of the most bankable young stars of the moment, has just accepted Marvel’s offer for the lead in “Captain America.” The star needed a few days to think over the terms of the deal and has ended up by accepting it, with the official announcement to be made in just days from now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

For a short while there, speculation was ripe that Marvel might even drop the idea for a Captain America movie because it could not come up with a good lead for it. Evans’ name was thrown in later this week, with several unnamed sources telling the media that he was by far the favorite. As it turns out, he actually was that and he is now (half-) confirmed for the lead in “The First Avenger: Captain America.”

“Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. Sources tell us the actor has not only accepted Marvel’s offer, first detailed on Friday, but that the dealmaking moved so fast it’s now all about dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. Marvel would not comment on the development, and CAA, which reps the actor, declined comment,” The Hollywood Reporter writes, citing well-placed sources with the production.

“Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios’ production last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four’ movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part? Evans took a few days to think it over, and once he decided he was willing to wield the shield, negotiations moved quickly over the weekend,” the same publication goes on to say.

Aside from his part as Human Torch in the “Fantastic Four” movies, fans also know Evan for his role in the comedy “Not Another Teen Movie” and, of course, for being quite a looker that always tops the hottest men in showbiz charts.
