Former guitarist and frontman for Soundgarden, currently leader of the Audioslave rock band, has been signed on for the latest 007 project, the producers announced yesterday.
The 'Casino Royale' music theme will be recorded later on, at a yet unspecified date.
Cornell has been chosen for such an important 'assignment' because of his sound, 'both soulful and thoughtful', and because he is considered as 'the perfect compliment' to the film, a spokesperson said.
By taking on such an important project, Chris will be treading on the footsteps of big artists who, over the years, contributed to the universal success of the 007 agent, like Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow and Nancy Sinatra.
Most of the music themes for James Bond have become classics, being somehow completely identified with the adventures of the slick agent, like it happened with 'Live And Let Die', 'Goldfinger' or 'Goldeneye'.
Nevertheless, Cornell is the first man to sing the movie theme since 1987, when A-Ha frontman, Morten Harket, sang 'The Living Daylights'. 'Casino Royal' opens in London on November 14th and, three days later, in theaters in the UK and the US.
