He did not stop the car and carried a large package of drugs, false message says

A fake message circulating on Facebook attempts to dupe users into landing on online survey websites by informing that singer Chris Brown has been shot dead by the police because he did not comply with their request to stop the car.

The scammers spiced the piece of fake news up by adding that the artist carried a 50-kg (110-pound) package with drugs, and this was the reason he did not stop the car.

As it always happens in the case of online survey scams, a video frame is provided to incite potential victims to click on the link leading to the survey site.

Before offering access to the alleged video, the victim is asked to share the message, a mistake that many users seem to make, despite the inherent risk of the action (passing along unverified content); this only helps the crooks spread their deceit to more potential victims.

The site hosting the scam has been reported by OnlineThreatAlerts to be chochachi[.]com/chris/?1222; it seems that it is frequently used for this type of activity and steers to other scammy locations.

At the moment, it redirects to a scam purporting to show the execution of Steven Sotloff by the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) Sunni jihadist group, at an address with graphics trying to impersonate YouTube. It appears that this scam is not yet active because there is no online survey available for it.
