Exactly one week after turning himself in and being charged with making criminal threats and resorting to domestic violence, Chris Brown has finally broken his silence regarding the alleged beating of girlfriend Rihanna. In his first statement since the episode, the 19-year-old singer professes to be extremely sorry about the entire incident, but says he cannot discuss its details until the police investigation concludes.

Since word got out in the media that Chris Brown had a very violent outburst last Sunday and lashed out at Rihanna, beating her with his fists, biting and choking her, both stars have kept their silence, regardless of what was being said about them in the media. In his first statement, Brown maintains that most of what has been said ever since is an exaggeration of the facts, but admits to seeking help for whatever it was that happened that night.

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs, or any place else. Those posts or writing under my name are frauds.” Chris Brown comments in the official press statement.

The last part of the message is in direct relation to a piece of news that made the headlines a couple of days back, and that had it that he had updated his Facebook account by switching his status to “single” and posting a message telling his fans that the world would “begin to see her true colors. Believe it!” as several media outlets reported at the time. Nevertheless, it is being argued, Brown’s statement does not shed any light on what really happened that night. A representative for Rihanna, contacted soon after by TMZ, refused to make any comment on what Brown had just said.

Last Sunday, police were called by concerned bystanders in what seemed a clear case of domestic violence. When they arrived at the scene, they reportedly found Rihanna in Brown’s rented Lamborghini, and she identified him as her attacker. Chris Brown turned himself in hours later, was booked and released on a $50,000 bail. He is due in court on March 5, by which time the police investigation should be over.
