Capcom is now officially talking about Dead Rising for the Nintendo Wii, following the announcement that the title is in production. The
official tag line for the game now reads Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop, and it aims to perfectly translate the zombie killing action that has already been a success on the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo consoles.
The game will be made up of individual, self contained levels that bear little connection. They are all case files that the main character must solve and a zombie fight is inevitable by the end of the level. The overall aim is to discover how the zombie plague spreads so that there's hope it can be brought to an end.
As always with Nintendo Wii ports of popular games, the main selling point is the way the release can make good use of the unique control scheme of the console. Capcom says it aims to create a "new level of interaction" by using the Wiimote, which will be accessed to simulate both the shooting of guns and the swinging action needed when it comes to bladed weapons. Players will also be able to use the Wiimote to shake off zombies that have gotten to close and the rumble feature to simulate the shock of bladed weapons impact.
The graphics engine is the same as that of
Resident Evil 4 and, even if the Wii is less powerful than the Xbox 360 when it comes to processing polygons, the game seems to be just as good, with many of the areas that players have already viewed being recycled for use in the new version. It remains to be seen how the Wii will handle the load of zombies on screen at the same time.
Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop is slated for a holiday release, probably sometime in December.
