You can set up several color zones, among many other things

Some sort of overkill PC component or full computer seems to be released every day. You might think that MSI's X99 and Z97 Gaming AKC motherboards covered that for today, but Tesoro begs to differ.

Tesoro is a USA-based maker of high-tech gaming products, particularly peripherals like mice and keyboards. As it happens, a keyboard is precisely what it has released.

Called Excalibur RGB LED, it doesn't look anything like the legendary sword, or any sword for that matter, even though the promo picture makes a point of including the sword theme. Of course, that sword doesn't look much like Excalibur either, but we digress.

Still, if you're looking for a really good keyboard that will keep up with your fast fingers in a racing or RTS game, the Excalibur RGB LED backlit keyboard will certainly let you “cut” through the competition.

As a mechanical keyboard, it uses mechanical, individual key switches. Some of the best in existence, in fact. We've heard of switches that can go for 20 million clicks, which is a lot, but the ones here can cope with 60 million strokes.

Thus, you can tap the living lights out of every button for a good, long while. And you don't need to worry about it sliding under your avid key strikes because the rubberized feet will keep it in place.

Full N-Key Rollover (NKRO) ensures total anti-ghosting functionality, meaning that you can press however many keys you wish and the keyboard or system won't choke on the signals.

The polling rate is of 1,000 Hz by the way (picks up key hits no matter how fast they come) and you can set several operational modes between which you can toggle with a single key press.

Moreover, Tesoro implemented a very advanced backlighting system that not only allows you to decide which keys to light, but in what color. The RGB system provides 16.8 million options, and you can even configure color zones for the device, as the picture shows (5 level LED key lighting with single key illumination mode). Moreover, there are 4 LED dimming levels.

Finally, macros can be stored on the 512 KB onboard memory, even without software, though the Excalibur RGB certainly ships with one, which provides advanced options. 5 sets of profiles, 300 macros keys, and 2,000 macro key presses are supported.

Availability and pricing

The Tesoro Excalibur RGB mechanical keyboard will start shipping in December for $119 / €95.
