As speculated almost a year ago, a “Carrie” remake is now in the works. Though Lindsay Lohan's name was attached to it for quite some time, to the point where it became a given, almost, it will be Chloe Moretz who will play the lead.

Deadline has confirmation that MGM approached the teenage acting sensation with an offer for the Carrie part and, as she makes it very clear on her Twitter page as well, she said yes.

“After meeting and reading a group of young actresses for Carrie, MGM, Screen Gems and director Kim Peirce have made their decision and made the formal offer today to Chloe Moretz,” the movie-oriented publication says.

“She’ll play the title role in the remake of the Brian DePalma original that was based on the 1974 Stephen King bestseller. She’s expected to play the shy high school student Carrie White, who is raised by a nightmarish religious fanatic mother, and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty,” Deadline says.

As those who've seen the original “Carrie,” a cult classic, must already know, Carrie has her final revenge on all those who bullied her at the school prom, but not before she's ridiculed once more in front of the entire school.

Given Moretz's experience with playing out of the ordinary roles (“Let Me In” and “Kick Ass,” to name just two of them), it's safe to say she'll make a memorable Carrie.

Other actresses considered for the part were Dakota Fanning and, as per various online reports, Lindsay Lohan.

The latter, for instance, was at one point said to be “dying” to land the part, having lost all credibility as a leading lady and, with it, movie studios' faith in her talent and professionalism.

Stephen King himself spoke on the issue, saying he did not believe Lohan could be a convincing Carrie, as we also informed you at the time.

Also then, King expressed his disbelief in the need for a remake when the original film turned out so good.

MGM is now casting for Carrie's mother, with shooting scheduled to start later this year, for a yet-to-be-announced release date.
