The major release of Chitwanix OS is now available for download on Softpedia

Chitwanix OS, an Ubuntu-based operating system developed by a group of Linux users from Nepal that uses its very own graphical desktop environment forked from Cinnamon, has reached version 1.5 and it is now available for download.

Chitwanix OS 1.5 is the second major release of the operating system and comes after almost a year of development. It is dubbed “Khukuri” and introduces important features and software updates, as well as bugfixes.

According to the changelog, Sagarmatha, the graphical interface of Chitwanix OS, has been updated to version 1.0.2. A brand-new login screen based on the latest HTML5 technologies has been implemented in this release and it features a user list and on-screen keyboard.

The distribution also includes updated software packages, support for the latest Wi-Fi, Ethernet, GPU and HDMI devices, improvements in the Nemo file manager and its extensions, as well as better artwork.

The desktop environment of Chitwanix OS has received a ton of tweaks and fixes. The Sagarmatha Menu has been improved, providing users with a traditional design that is user-friendly and familiar, especially for Microsoft Windows users who want to migrate to an open-source distribution.

In addition, several applets and extension will make your Chitwanix OS experience more fun and productive. Among these, we can mention the Desktop Cube, 3D Flip and Wobbly desktop effects, as well as a bunch of mission-critical applets and several jaw dropping wallpapers.

As mentioned, Chitwanix OS 1.5 introduces a brand-new HTML5 login screen (a.k.a. display manager) that is based on Linux Mint’s MDM (Mint Display Manager) software and provides users with an on-screen keyboard, better language manager and a user list feature.
