China has often denied being involved in cyber espionage campaigns, but the country’s military, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), doesn’t hide the fact that its combat forces include cyber units.

According to Xinhua, the PLA has announced that it will conduct an exercise in late June in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region – the country’s largest military training field – to test new types of combat forces.

The new forces include units that use digital technology to make sure the PLA can handle “informationalized war.”

The general staff department has revealed that this will be the first time when the military focuses on digitalized units, army aviation and electronic counter forces.

Next week, US President Barack Obama will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in California to discuss cyber security issues.

Over the past few months, US officials have made numerous accusations towards China. According to the latest reports, Chinese hackers are believed to have stolen designs for over two dozen weapon systems.
