At the recent Shangri-la Dialogue held in Singapore, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel once again highlighted that the United States was concerned about cyberattacks. He also once again expressed concerns about the cyber espionage operations allegedly launched by the Chinese government and military.

However, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China is willing to hold discussions on cyber security with the US.

Xinhua reports that the US and China have agreed to establish a network work group.

Both Hagel and the Chinese Foreign Ministry hope that the work group can help in promoting dialogue and ultimately allow the two sides to reach consensus as far as cyberspace is concerned.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei has emphasized the fact that China is one of the biggest victims of cyberattacks. Hong reiterated that the Chinese government strongly opposed hackers and cyberattacks.
