Talking to reporters at the annual National People’s Congress, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi once again highlighted that the country was not involved in any cyberattacks against foreign organizations.

China has often denied being involved in cyberattacks launched against the United States and other countries. However, Yang is the highest-ranking official so far to respond to the numerous accusations.

According to China Daily, the official urged the West to instate rules and cooperation, instead of launching "politics-driven smear campaigns."

"What is black is black, and what is white stays white. Anyone who tries to fabricate or piece together a sensational story to serve a political motive will not be able to blacken the name of others nor whitewash themselves," Yang said.

He added, "The international community is closely connected through the Internet, therefore cyberspace needs rules and cooperation, not war."

The speech coincides with the release of a report by China’s CERT in which the US is appointed as being the number one source of cyberattacks against the country’s computer systems.
