No more scams!

This is the story of Liao Peigui from Danzhou city, China. This guy was no average Joe - he had a lot of brains, as he was a computer engineer at only 20 years old! The sad part about all this is the fact that instead of using his great mind for a good purpose, he used it to scam people with a clone site. This is certainly not the first nor the last time when I write about a smart computer geek going outlaw!

What this guy did, was no new scheme however. He decided to employ site cloning to increase his profits. He made an exact replica of the famous Beijing2008 website, which is the official page for the 2008 Olympics that are to be held in Beijing, of course. The site gets a lot of visitors daily, fact which is easy to understand since China has such a large population; plus, the site also has a French version and an English one.

So, after making the clone of the site, he attracted people to it and then scammed them. As the British "Guardian Unlimited" informs, Liao Peigui persuaded his victims to transfer 10 to 20 percent of the value of their "prize" into one of his accounts. He "gathered" more than $53.000 using this scam.

Fortunately, the Police were vigilant and they busted him. But this was just a fortunate case - similar ones may go unpunished and cause a lot more financial damage. I'm not saying you should be paranoid, but when you're online and a money-regarding matter pops up, you should start being extra-careful. No great organization is going to scam you on the web, that's why it's important to always look carefully at the link you just surfed to! Here's is a tool that will help you spot phony links instantly!
