The Chinese government has been fighting TV channels nationwide, in what has proven this far a futile attempt to stop misleading commercials from being aired. The law that prohibits ads for magic weight loss treatment and breast enhancement drugs from being aired is effectual since August 1st, but high profits made the networks ignore the ban.
Now, an ad for potency is the next in line for the Chinese government. The commercial (for the unspecified drug) shows many businessmen who brag that it's the potency medicine the one that makes them bring in female clients. Immediately after hitting the air, the ad sparked controversy and complaints, both from the public and the authorities.
'The advertisement has crossed the bottom line of morality. It is nothing but shameless. I can't believe TV stations would broadcast and advertisement like it', one of the biggest news agencies in the country said in a statement issued this morning.
An investigation is underway, aiming at the TV stations that aired the 'shameless' commercial. 'Healthcare product commercials are broadcast on provincial satellite TV with the approval of the local food and drug bureau and broadcasting bureau. The center will report it to a higher administrative department in SARFT [State Administration of Radio, Film and Television] and work out a punishment if they find it true after investigation', a representative for the news agency said during the same official statement.
