Following a report according to which Chinese hackers stole the designs for over two dozen US weapon systems, Chinese officials have come forward denying the accusations.

According to Agence France-Presse, a Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman said Beijing was capable of building weapons on its own.

"There are misjudgements in the US claims. First they underestimate the security defence capabilities of the Pentagon and second they underestimate the intelligence of the Chinese people,” the spokesman said.

“China is fully capable of building the weapons and equipment needed to defend national security,” he added.

The report in question, made by the US Defense Science Board, revealed that designs for missile defenses, aircraft and ships were compromised.

Later, US officials argued that they were still confident in the country’s weapon platforms, and highlighted the fact that the DSB report was outdated.
