Windows 8.1 is said to be Microsoft’s most secure operating system to date, but it seems that some authorities across the world think otherwise.

A report published by Chinese media PC Beta reveals that the local government wants its offices to remove Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 as soon as possible because it contains some backdoors that could allow others to spy on its users.

The solution is pretty simple, the report claims: China wants all computers to switch back to Windows 7 because it’s not only the best Windows version to date, but also because it doesn’t contain any backdoors. The switch back to Windows 7 is said to be scheduled after the Chinese New Year.

According to this report, the order comes from the National Security Bureau and in case it’s true, it’s clearly another important hit received by Microsoft in a very large market.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft for a word on this and we’ll update the article accordingly when and if we get an answer.
