Kaspersky has made available its July 2012 spam report. The spam messages that took the spotlight the past month were related to Groupon, the economic crisis, the Olympics and the Ramadan – the holy month of the Muslim world.

The figures show that China, India and the USA are mostly responsible for the unsolicited messages that land in the inboxes of users from Europe. Internauts located in the United States have been bombarded with spam mainly from the US (go figure), China, Brazil and India.

As far as malware is concerned, the largest number of emails carrying malware were identified in the United States (15% of emails carried malware), Germany (8%) and the UK (6%).

In July, phishers were also hard at work, mostly targeting social networking sites, financial organizations, online stores, search engines, IT vendors, and other types of organizations.
