Last week, during a speech at the European Parliament, US Congressman Mike Rogers once again accused China of spying on American and European organizations. A Chinese diplomat has accused the official of trying to divert attention from the US’s own spying program.

According to news agency Xihnua, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the European Union noted that China opposed “hacking and cyber attack of whatever form,” and called for dialogue and cooperation “in the spirit of mutual respect and mutual trust.”

As far as Rogers’s remarks are concerned, the spokesperson called them ridiculous, highlighting the fact that the “PRISM issue” had attracted worldwide attention.

“Its impact is worthy of rethinking,” the diplomat said. “We hope that relevant parties could take it seriously and address their own problems properly rather than attempt to divert the concerns of the international community by making unprofessional and irresponsible accusations.”
