This past Monday, high officials in China announced plans to offer money rewards to six of the country's regions that had successfully reduced air pollution levels.

South China Morning Post tells us that these rewards amount to $818 million (€603 million), and that the money is to be spent on further improving air quality.

The rewards will be given to regions that have achieved previously established pollution targets, have taken steps towards reducing air concentrations of particulate matter and have also invested noteworthy sums in pollution treatment, the same source details.

Information shared with the public by China's Ministry of Finance says that, for the time being, the regions eligible to receive these funds are as follows: Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Shadong and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The rewards will be offered at the end of this year.
