Futuremark Corporation announced today the signing of an agreement with China Mobile, aimed at the development of a new benchmarking piece of software. As you probably know by now, Futuremark is the global leading developer of performance-analysis software, as well as of services for smartphones, handheld devices and PCs, while China Mobile is the leading telecommunications service provider in China and the largest wireless carrier in the world, by number of subscribers (around 477 million by the end of March, 2009).

According to the above-mentioned companies, the new software solution is intended to offer China Mobile the possibility to measure the performance of handsets running under its own smartphone operating system. The new Benchmark solution will be built on Futuremark’s existing SPMark product line of benchmarks, while also sporting additional tests that have been specifically developed for the mobile-phone carrier.

“We have chosen to use Futuremark’s Benchmark as our standard testing suite for handset qualification,” Mr. Yu Chuan, the director of the Terminal Department, China Mobile Research Institute, commented on the deal. “With Futuremark’s Benchmark, China Mobile and our handset partners have the ideal tool for accurately and reliably measuring the performance of cell phones running the smart phone operating system.”

According to the duo, the new Benchmark is expected to become available for licensing in the first quarter of the next year. Those who are interested should contact Futuremark for info on the solution's pricing and delivery. Those who would like to learn additional details on other benchmark products and services that Futuremark developed for the mobile industry or other segments can do so by accessing the company's website.

“With China Mobile being the largest Mobile Operator in the world, even small increases in performance have a big impact,” Tero Sarkkinen, CEO of Futuremark, said. “By using the modern performance testing methods developed by Futuremark, China Mobile is showing its customers it is serious about delivering a world class cell phone experience.”
