This May 26, Business Secretary Vince Cable announced that, in an attempt to put a leash on its ongoing air pollution crisis and improve on its ecological footprint, China decided to turn to UK green construction standards.

Specifically, media reports tell us that UK construction company Building Research Establishment entered a partnership with China's Shenzhen Municipal Government.

As part of this collaboration, Building Research Establishment is to set the basis for a training, and research and development center in said city, Click Green informs.

This center will help educate high officials and construction specialists in China on what the best ways to make a building greener are, and will also help the country establish and implement green construction standards.

“We are excited by the collaboration with the Shenzhen Government and supporting them to achieve their goal to be the greenest city in China,” Jaya Skandamoorthy with the Building Research Establishment stated.

“We hope our international standards, research and training programme will provide a platform for leading companies, British and Chinese, to collaborate on green products, technologies and buildings,” he went on to add.

By the looks of it, the UK construction company expects that it will soon offer green certifications to about 1,000 buildings in China, information shared with the public says.

Doing so would not only translate into a ₤10 million (some €12.34 million / $16.82 million) income for the firm but would also lead to the creation of ₤200 million (about €246.85 million / $336.48 million) for supply chain companies in the UK.
