Over the weekend, the South China Morning Post published a second part of its interview with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Snowden is cited as saying that the US has been hacking not only some major Chinese universities, but also telecoms companies in an effort to gain access to text messages.

After hearing the news, China’s Foreign Ministry revealed that the government is “gravely concerned” in regards to the allegations.

“We are gravely concerned about the recently disclosed cyber attacks by relevant US government agencies against China. It shows once again that China falls victim to cyber attacks. We have made representations with the US,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying noted.

“I would like to reiterate that China is opposed to all forms of cyber attacks. We are ready to actively enhance dialogue and cooperation with the international community in the spirit of mutual respect, so as to jointly uphold peace and security of the cyber space.”
