China is one step ahead in developing and implementing viable solutions to overcome the energy crisis. State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) has recently announced the completion of what appears to be the biggest, most eco-friendly battery energy storage station, built in Zhangbei, Hebei Province.

The giant construction is as green as possible, since it exploits both wind and solar energy. Developers also brag about its 36 megawatt-hours of energy storage, and a “smart power transmission system,” GreenBang informs.

Even though a renewable-powered facility of these dimensions is far from being considered a major achievement nowadays, the record in this case is set by the size of the battery systems.

The main goal is to stabilize the grid and make it more reliable, by overcoming the upsetting energy shortages. To do so, the facility displays energy storage batteries placed in arrays as big as a football field.

State Grid Corporation of China has chosen to work with BYD, a major enterprise from China specialized in designing and delivering solar panels, high-tech iron-phosphate batteries, electric vehicles, to build the amazing battery storage station due to its battery technology, which has a lifespan of almost two decades.

Apart from making the grid more reliable, the battery storage system is also expected to boost the energy-efficiency of renewable power coming from the wind and the sun by up to 10%.

“BYD is honored to cooperate with China and SGCC to build this large energy storage station and to make a contribution in the utilization of renewable energy resources,” stated He Long, vice president of BYD.

According to officials from SGCC, their partnership with BYD is a great way of bringing “vast amounts of renewable electricity safely to the grid on an unprecedented scale.”

Its developers say that the giant State Grid project will give a great boost to the sector of renewables, while renewing China's environmental goals.
