China is one of the countries where old Microsoft software seems to live forever, so the tech giant’s mission to move users to newer product is fairly impossible.

But the latest figures are finally showing some progress, as Internet Explorer 6’s market share in China has dropped to 22.2 percent from approximately 24 percent a couple of weeks ago.

Overall, IE6 is still powering 6.1 percent of computers worldwide, but China clearly remains Microsoft’s priority right now.

As for Windows XP, the 11-year-old operating system is still installed on nearly 54 percent of computers in the country, while worldwide, its market share has dropped to approximately 37 percent.

Microsoft will officially retire Windows XP on April 8, 2014, so users across the globe have only 8 months to pick their next destination, be it Windows or Linux.
