Besides agreeing to invests loads of money in measures intended to curb air pollution levels in various parts of the country, high officials in China have recently come up with a rather ingenious way to solve this ongoing crisis.

Long story short, they say that they will very soon start shaming the country's most polluted cities, and praise the ones with the cleanest air.

They will do this by publishing two monthly lists. One will name China's top polluters, the other will name the urban areas that are the cleanest, at least as far as air quality goes.

According to International Business Times, this measures is intended to force the country's citizen's into paying closer attention to how their actions affect the environment.

Besides, local authorities are expected to react and implement measures intended to improve on the ecological footprint of the cities they are in charge of looking after.

“We must put air-quality control as an ecological red line for economic management and social development. Air-pollution control is a long, arduous and complex mission. We need to highlight the control of major polluted cities and strengthen the reduction and management of various polluters,” China's Vice Premier Zhang Gao Li reportedly said in a recent statement.
