Jago Worral cheated death, as a swim in the family pond left him breathless. The now two-year-old boy drowned, and even though parents tried to resuscitate him, he was left with no pulse for 65 minutes. Jago beat the odds and made a recovery, as paramedics massaged his heart.

In March, Jago's parents had planned to put a fence around the pond, but had delayed doing so because of the weather, the Daily Mail reports.

“The workmen were booked to come the following week to fence it in before the weather improved and the children wanted to play outside,” mother Lyn stated.

He was found face down in the water, by his mother. The woman jumped in and brought him to safety, but she noticed the boy had stopped breathing.

“He was blue and floppy and he wasn’t breathing. [...] In my mind, he had gone,” she describes.

Lyn had taken a first-aid course when the boy was four months old, but she remained petrified, faced with the possibility of losing her son.

“I couldn’t do it. He wasn’t alive and that was all I could see. [...] I couldn’t even walk. I crawled on hands and knees back to the house,” she says.

Jago's father attempted to resuscitate him, to no avail. He had no training and wasn't able to properly give the boy mouth-to-mouth.

Paramedics arrived 20 minutes after the child was found. The little boy was intubated and his heart was massaged for 45 minutes, until first responders could get a pulse.

Jago had a one in a hundred chance of surviving the night, but, somehow, made it through. Unfortunately, doctors warn the family that he will be left with permanent brain damage. So far, he cannot walk or talk and needs a feeding tube to consume the necessary amount of nutrients for his body.
