Odd because the lower-end ones have no PCI Express connectors for some reason

With the sort of hardware running around these days, one would think that PCI Express power connectors would be a default part of a power supply's feature set at this point.

Chieftec disagrees, according to Overclockers Ukraine. While the 500W, 550W, 600W, 650W and 700W TASK power supplies have such ports, the 400W and 450W do not.

More specifically, the 500W PSU has a single PCIe plug and the other have two.

Since we know of quite a bunch of 80 Plus-certified PSUs of 400W with PCI Express ports, we have to wonder as to why Chieftec chose this. All seven have 80 Plus Bronze rating after all, and hardware is much more efficient today than it used to be, so there should be enough power for one add-in board.

On the bright side, Chieftec included active-PFC, common electrical/thermal safety mechanisms, and 120 mm temperature-controlled fans.

No prices or availability dates are known though.
