Last week's best sold and most rented DVDs had nothing in common: the brand new 3D animation from Disney did extremely well as the sales prove, yet David Cronenberg's latest movie was top notch at the rental shops.
According to VideoScan data, "Chicken Little" grossed more than $135 million in theaters and outsold second-ranked "Dreamer: Inspired By a True Story," from DreamWorks, by a nearly 4-to-1 margin. Let's clap our hands for Disney's return (with a vengeance, of course) in the hearts and homes of Americans.
The strange mixture of common life drama, western and mafia movie Cronenberg put together and remixed in his movie made A History of Violence a big hit. Once again, if we count the good reviews it got from the critics and the unforeseen commercial success the movie had.
Disney needed a come back and a synchronization with today's cartoon market and yes, there is no doubt Chicken Little was the right choice. Later to come to theaters this year, the new Disney 3D animation movie, Cars is already long awaited by audiences, but will face the strong competition (at the B.O record breaking) that might be established by the Ice Age sequel, The Meltdown.
