Ex Sun-Times columnist Robert Feder reveals via Facebook that the paper’s reporters will begin iPhoneography training as part of a company-wide initiative which has left the entire photography staff jobless.

Feder says, “Sun-Times reporters begin mandatory training today on ‘iPhone photography basics’ following elimination of the paper's entire photography staff.”

Managing editor Craig Newman told staffers in a memo that the paper’s management will be working with all editorial employees over the next few weeks “to train and outfit you as much as possible to produce the content we need.”

Needless to point out, the photographers don’t agree with the decision, with one Alex Garcia saying that “the idea that freelancers and reporters could replace a photo staff with iPhones is idiotic at worst, and hopelessly uninformed at best.”

The iPhone sports one of the best cameras in the smartphone industry, and achieves much better results than post digital point-and-shoot cameras.
