Chess 2: The Sequel is bringing its unique version of the millennia-old game to the Ouya, launching on January 21.

Developer Ludeme Games offers a unique spin on the classic battle of wits, instead of the classical game's relying on a perfectly balanced board state, opting to present players with a choice of six different armies.

Each army has its unique perks, like allowing the queen to teleport or giving pawns more freedom of movement.

Additionally, when a piece is captured, the person losing it can challenge the attacker to a duel via an auction, where each player simultaneously selects a number of limited resources to bid, allowing the captured piece to take its attacker down with it, should the auction be won.

Chess 2 thus relies much more on key positional plays that have to be developed on the spot, than on memorizing the time-tested fixed opening sequences chess players use.

Chess 2: The Sequel was first announced as an Ouya exclusive game during mid-2013, and the game was initially expected to launch at the end of last year.
