Singer Cheryl Cole is set to make her first foray into acting in a comedy that stars the likes of Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock, Jennifer Lopez and Dennis Quaid. Though it’s her first movie role ever, word has it Cheryl isn’t really thinking about a career in the industry. After being dropped from the judges panel on the US version of X Factor after just five days and replaced with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, Cheryl is believed to have been plotting her comeback.
Granted, she never really broke the US – the X Factor job was supposed to help her do that – so this minor cameo in a big, all-star production will hopefully serve the purpose.
“After getting the boot from the American and UK versions of the X Factor, Cheryl Cole is bouncing back with a role in the upcoming What to Expect When You’re Expecting starring Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz,”
E! Online reports.
A rep for the former Girls Aloud member confirms the news: yes, Cheryl is making her feature film debut, but fans shouldn’t expect to see her for far too long on the silver screen.
“Cheryl Cole is confirmed for a small cameo appearance in the film What To Expect When You’re Expecting,” the rep says.
No word yet on what that role, as minor as it is, might be.
Other media outlets, though, seem to have a fair idea about the role Cheryl will play – and, perhaps not at all surprisingly, it’s something connected to X Factor,
Examiner says.
She “will play an X Factor-type judge who rejects a contestant, played by Diaz,” the publication claims, citing an unnamed but admittedly reliable source.
“This is a bit of fun for Cheryl. She will film the scenes imminently and is really looking forward to it. It doesn’t mean she suddenly wants to become an actress. It was just an opportunity that has come up and she thought it would be great fun to take part,” the spy dishes.
“What to Expect When You’re Expecting” has also been getting a lot of buzz online just recently because paparazzi constantly stalked Jennifer Lopez on set – especially as she shot scenes with handsome Rodrigo Santoro.
The film comes out in May 2012.
