Cherry Mobile has just announced the immediate availability of the affordable Thunder smartphone in the Philippines.

The device will ship with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, but it might receive a Jelly Ben upgrade in the future.

Cherry Mobile Thunder is now available for purchase in the Philippines for only PhP 5,000 outright, which is about $125 or €90.

As AndroidAuthority points out, the main selling point of the phone might be the large 4.5-inch FWVGA capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution and 218 ppi.

Hardware-wise, the Thunder is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core MediaTek processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The phone also sports a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper with video recording, as well as a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.
