Last week, Cher said that if her son, Chaz Bono, would make it through to another week on DWTS, she’d come to see him perform live. She kept her promise and, on Monday’s show, she came to see him do the Paso Doble with partner Lacey Schwimmer.
Not only did she offer plenty of support to Chaz, which translated into her breaking one of her bracelets from all the clapping, but she was even moved to tears by his performance on the dancefloor.
It also earned him warm praises from the judges.
Since the night was movie soundtrack night, Chaz and Lacey went for the ever-inspirational track from the “Rocky” soundtrack.
They even enlisted the help of Richard Simmons to make the intro more convincing and, of course, more “Rocky”-like.
The routine itself stuck to the same theme, even including a long shot of Chaz at the end, running up the stairs to strike the famous pose from the film.
Judges were clearly pleased with his performance, with Carrie Ann Inaba fighting back tears as she told the pair she does think of Chaz as the underdog, just like was the case with the character in “Rocky.”
“In the true spirit of ‘Rocky,’ no matter how many knocks you take, you keep coming back. You keep fighting and you keep getting stronger,” Bruno Tonioli also said.
However, neither of the judges was as moved by the performance as was Chaz’s own mother, Cher. When the routine ended, she could hardly contain her tears, while, at the same time, she was beaming with pride.
“On way to DWTS ! I’m very TRIBAL ! Pauli will take pic ! If it’s good I’ll send Wish chaz luck !!! I’m here !” Cher tweeted on her way to DWTS, before the show.
Afterwards, she followed with an all-caps tweet that proves, beyond any doubt, she had the time of her life watching her son dance.
“OMG! I WAS CRYING ! WASNT EXPECTING 2 B SO NERVOUS ! BROKE MY BRACELET CLAPPING ! IM SO PROUD !! CHAZ WAS GREAT! LOVED DAVID ARQUETTE 2nd” Cher wrote.
