Legendary singer Cher is one notoriously tough cookie, but it seems that she’s been almost completely brought down to her knees by the viral infection that forced her to cancel most of her fall tour dates.

According to the latest issue of British tab Closer Weekly, the 68-year-old diva is still not entirely well after the extended hospitalization, and has been fitted with a heart monitor.

She’s fighting a “deadly illness,” according to the cover of the tab, which you will also see attached to this article.

Cher has been fitted with a heart monitor

Despite the obvious hint on the cover of the tab that Cher is practically with one foot in the grave, the magazine reveals inside that things aren’t that bad – though they’re definitely worse than the singer and her people tried to make it sound.

Cher spent most of September and October fighting the viral infection, in and out of the hospital. As per the singer’s Twitter feed, she would never cancel a show unless she was in such a bad shape as to not even be able to stand on her own. She canceled several shows, so you can do an estimate yourself of how poorly she was.

Insiders tell Closer that she was even worse: a short while ago, the singer was spotted out shopping at Whole Foods in Brentwood, California, and she was wearing “a weird heart-shaped monitor taped to her chest.”

“This viral infection she contracted scared everyone,” says another source. “[It] primarily affected her kidneys [but also] played havoc with her entire body. It’s been very scary to her.”

Another source and a publicist for the diva confirm for the magazine that she’s been fitted with the heart monitor, but they insist it’s part of the recovery: she’s doing fine, all things considered. “She’s out and about, exercising and rehearsing for her tour, which begins again in Texas in early November. She can’t wait to get back out on the road,” her publicist says.

Sidelined from touring but not Twitter

Even though she was bedridden and in such a bad condition, not able to fulfill her promise to fans with the Dressed to Kill Tour, Cher never stopped being active on Twitter. She used social media to keep the fans she “disappointed” up to speed with her progress and to apologize to them profusely whichever chance she got about letting them down by canceling the shows.

In between apologies, she also let out her inner feminist, going out after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella after he said at a women’s event that he believed ladies should have the “super power” of knowing when not to ask for a raise and trust that the system would eventually take care of them, and give it to them.

Cher, as you can see from the tweets below, nearly popped a vein in her forehead when she heard this – and she didn’t waste the chance to let Mr. Nadella have a piece of her mind. He eventually apologized after the backlash, and promised Microsoft would do its part to be more diverse and egalitarian.
