Chelsea must hire some good financial and marketing experts immediately, since what happened with their latest transfer seems unbelievable. After signing winger Damien Duff 4 years ago for more than 25 million euros, the Stanford Bridge club let his go to Newcastle United for only 7.5 million euros. And we all know that the competition between players in Mourinho's side is pretty demanding. But still, to lose almost 20 million euros on a player after only 4 years, that's just stupid.

And Newcastle has become an expert in signing great players that don't enter a club's policy for the future.
It happened with Patrick Kluivert, Spaniard striker Luque and Michael Owen. Well, as the latter is concerned, Newcastle has had a lot to suffer, especially after the World Cup. Following the striker's injury, the Tune officials managed to get the FA to pay for the operation & treatment costs.

And Newcastle managed to hit the jackpot once again, by signing Duff. Even if Mourinho likes the player very much, the Portuguese admitted that he cannot use that many players in his team and, unfortunately, he has to let go some of them. And Duff was one of the guys that had to say good bye to "the blues". Although the transfer sum was kept secret for the last few days, Newcastle released the info on the move to the Stock Exchange, including details on the fee.

As BBC tells us, "the directors are pleased to announce that Damien Duff passed his medical and his transfer has been completed for a fee of 7.5 million euros. The player has agreed personal terms and signed a five-year contract ending in June 2011". The Irish player's first price, as known to the media, was of 15 million euros. And, as it seems, Newcastle managed to get probably the best deals in international football.

And Newcastle's coach, Glen Roeder, is more than happy with the transfer. "I can't tell you how pleased I am about getting a player of that quality. I would think it will excite our fans as well", said Roeder, who is trying to get his team in the UEFA Cup this year. The St. James Park side beat Lillestrom in the Intertoto Cup and will now wait to find out their next opponents in the UEFA Cup 2nd round.
