CARCO Group, a provider of information services dealing with fraud detection and risk mitigation services has announced the release of its free iPhone application, CheckThatVin. The app allows users to check a vehicle’s history on the spot by using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The CheckThatVin service is available to anyone www.checkthatvin.com. Basically, CARCO’s app allows mobile access to their service.

Those looking to buy themselves a car can research a vehicle’s history by using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System database (NMVTIS).

The vehicle’s VIN is read by taking a picture of the barcode with the iPhone. The app also allows users to archive and email reports on the spot.

Priced at just five bucks, CARCO believes CheckThatVin for iPhone is a steal.

In addition to its main functionality described in the paragraphs above, CheckThatVin also provides timely and accurate title, brand, salvage and “total loss” information which, according to its makers, blow competitive services out of the water.

CARCO describes CheckThatVin as a valuable resource to consumers in the market for used cars, and for dealers considering bringing a car on their lot at auction, or by trade-in.

“Times have changed, the way consumers buy and research has changed,” commented CARCO’s President and CEO, James Owens.

“We need to make it as easy as possible for people to get real-time information to help formulate their vehicle purchasing decisions.”

“We are thrilled to be able to provide an accurate, convenient means to ease the process and provide peace of mind,” Owens said.

Although advertised as an iPhone app, CheckThatVIN is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later.

The app is likely to work best with the latest generation of camera-enabled iDevices. Download the free app from iTunes using the link below.
