Distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks are an ever growing concern for many organizations and that’s why security firms try to come up with products which can help companies protect their infrastructures against such threats. A perfect example is Check Point Software Technologies, which has launched the DDOS Protector appliance line.

The new appliances offer a multi-layered protection and a 12 gigabyte per second capacity for network traffic.

DDOS Protector is designed to block all major types of attacks, including server floods, application layer attacks, and network floods.

“The DDoS Protector appliance line marks our entrance into a new and critical area of network security,” explained Dorit Dor, VP of products at Check Point Software Technologies.

“As the prevalence of DDoS attacks on enterprises continues to rise, it's important to enable our customers to protect themselves and mitigate one of the biggest security risks across today's threat landscape.”

The appliances, developed in collaboration with Radware – another company that specializes in fending off DDOS attacks -, are designed to clean traffic before it reaches the main security gateway.

Furthermore, everything can be controlled from a single point with the aid of the Check Point management suit.

The performance and hardware specifications table shows that the Enterprise version of the DDOS Protector is capable of handling up to 2 million concurrent sessions, while the Datacenter variant can deal with as many as 4 million.

As far as flood attack prevention rates go, the Enterprise product is designed to withstand 1 million packets per second. The Datacenter edition can do far better than that, being able to handle as many as 10 million packets each second.

Organizations interested in acquiring such a protection system can contact one of Check Point’s many worldwide resellers.
