He came to create the meme by merging the image of a pop tart with that of a cat. A video on which a repeating sound meant to mimic the noise made by cats was edited over the animation spread like wildfire on YouTube. Nyan cat is followed by 2.3 million people online.
Sockington, the cat, ranks at number three. He was found as a stray by archivist and Internet historian, Jason Scott, who posts tweets from a cat’s point of view.
The tweets are posted regularly throughout the day, making Sockington the leader amongst feline Twitter personalities.
Simon's cat is not an actual animal, but a YouTube animated cartoon which draws millions of watchers.
