A video gaining momentum lately, although online for more than two years, reminds us that Michael Jackson is not the creator of the moonwalk dance.

A landmark dance which is often attributed to Jackson, the moonwalk was debuted earlier on, and one of the first recordings of it dates back to Bill Bailey's performance in 1943.

Wikipedia informs us that he did the dance, which he dubbed “the backslide" in the 1943 movie Cabin In the Sky, long before Jackson made his version popular.

Bailey is pictured above during a show at the Apollo Theater in New York in 1955. The move is featured at the very end of his tap dancing routine to “The World Is Waiting for Sunrise” by the Paul Williams Quartet.
