There's a lot of revamping going around the web these days. Google is in the midst of a massive and global redesign, but it's hardly the only one. Mozilla is also revamping the Add-Ons site, one of the most visited sites on the web.

The new design is cleaner and lighter and it certainly feels better the first time you lay eyes on it.

The fonts are smaller, there are fewer graphical elements and Mozilla has done some smart things to pack more add-ons on one page while still having plenty of info on all of them.

"We’re very excited to begin rolling out a new design for our homepage and add-on details page to a small number of visitors to addons.mozilla.org very soon," Mozilla announced.

"These new designs bring some of our most popular pages in line with the new Mozilla styling and provide a cleaner, simpler look for exploring the thousands of add-ons in our gallery," it said.

One of the cool things about the new homepage is that there are now a lot more add-ons featured, each with only a small snippet of information available at first glance.

Hover the mouse over them at any point, though, and you get a plethora of info without having to click on the add-on and visit its dedicated page.

"Using this new layout, we’re able to surface a wider variety of add-ons. The same rotating banners visible in the Firefox 4 Add-ons Manager are now on the homepage to offer fresh new content every month," Mozilla explained.

Another change the Mozilla Add-Ons team is introducing, not strictly related to the redesign, is a new way of surfacing popular extensions.

Rather than just see which are the most downloaded, Mozilla will now display the add-ons that get the most use over a seven day period. This is thanks to the new add-on tracking features introduced in Firefox 4.

The add-on pages have been revamped as well. The focus was on surfacing the things and info that users care about the most and put everything else out of sight.

The new design is not yet live for everyone, Mozilla is just testing it, but you can see it for yourself by visiting this alternative link.
