Voice calling has been rumored to arrive to WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been promising to add a voice calling feature to its popular messaging service since like forever.

Originally, we were expecting to see the functionality delivered to our phones in the second quarter of the year. But as you might as well know, time has passed and nothing of the sort rolled out.

However, recently, WhatsApp has put a stop to speculation and confirmed that the feature wouldn’t be making a debut until 2015. This news might have come as a disappointment to many, but the company might be busy working on something else instead.

According to speculation coming from the rumor mill, WhatsApp is on the way to providing a feature that was long-requested by users everywhere – the ability to send messages via web.

Is this voice calling on WhatsApp for Android?

Anyway, that’s not to say the voice calling feature promise has been forgotten. Not really. The folks at Dutch website Android World have published a bunch of leaked screenshots showing us what the whole voice calling affair will look like on the upcoming Android app.

We still have no idea when the feature will be added to the app, but when it does, we won’t be taken by surprise. Well, in case these leaked screenshots turn out to be the real deal, naturally.

It appears the voice function in WhatsApp will be separated from the chat function, somehow. It also seems possible that users will be able to listen back to older conversations they had with friends and family, as they will be listed in the text messaging window.

Overall, the images suggest a pretty simple and clear implementation of the voice calling feature. The update will bring slide-to-answer function, options to reply by message (including pre-defined texts), and a dedicated button to connect Bluetooth headsets.

However, this information is far from confirmed, so at this point you should take everything we told you so far with a big grain of salt, even if the screenshots seem accurate enough.

WhatsApp now exists under the Facebook umbrella

WhatsApp is one of the world’s most popular messaging solutions. Actually, social media giant Facebook recently paid a whopping $22 / €18 billion in order to acquire it and there’s no wonder why.

This convenient application allows handset users to exchange messages free of charge, regardless of the platform they are using (be it Android, iOS or Windows Phone).

Even so, WhatsApp hasn’t exactly excelled at keeping the pace with adding new features. For example, BlackBerry’s BBM already bundles this feature.
