Google has started rolling out its winter holidays doodle. It's only available in countries where it is already December 24, Australia or New Zealand, but it should be popping up on local homepages and eventually on the global Google.com homepage as the clock strikes 12 in the respective time zones.

This year's doodle is surprising, for one, it has a black background, something that Google rarely does, if ever. Second, the doodle is not very elaborate, just a bunch of Christmas lights arranged in the form of snowflakes, elves, snowmen and similar things.

The Google logo, also made out of Christmas lights is visible underneath, but is not 'lit up.' Perhaps that's a hit of something more spectacular to come, on the first day of Christmas perhaps.

Check out the flashy and musical interactive doodle in action.
