Most people today prefer smartphones with a larger display

The trend in the world of smartphones today is an increasing one as far as size is concerned. So we’re no longer surprised to hear about new handsets launching with a 6-inch display or even with a 7-inch display.

For example, Huawei introduced at MWC 2015 a tablet-sized phone called the MediaPad X2 and the company made a point of highlighting that the product is not a tablet but a phone, so you’ll be able to make phone calls from it.

While most device makers have readily taken to the oversized phone trend, there aren’t a lot of companies to offer devices that don’t take that much space and can easily be hidden from sight.

This is because customers tend to prefer phones with large displays that can accommodate even productive activities like doing some quick word processing in Word.

However, having a smaller phone at your disposal does have its perks. It will cost you a lot less and you will be able to fit it almost anywhere. While smartphones like the BlackBerry Passport don’t really fit even in the widest of pockets, a phone like the LG Migo will probably have no problem hiding even in your wallet.

At this point, you’re probably scratching your head, wondering what on earth is the LG Migo? To clear things up, in what follows, I’m going to take the opportunity to walk you through some of the world’s smallest phones to date. Some have been produced by established brands like LG, while others are pretty much unknown to the mainstream public.

LG Migo

LG isn’t a stranger to producing korky phones. Actually, the Korean giant’s odd-looking AKA smartphone was just released on international markets a few days ago.

But LG has also been offering a tiny phone going by the name of Migo that weighs only 70 g / 0.15 lbs. The phone packs a relatively unique and child-like design with cute make-belief ears resting on top.

The Migo allows for calling and text messaging and is actually specifically targeted towards kids. Which isn’t to say that parents wouldn’t be able to use it in times of need.

Samsung SGH-E888

While Samsung is currently focusing its efforts on making more premium looking handsets, many don’t know that the Korean tech giant has been making mini-phones as well.

This is not so shocking given the fact that Samsung tends to fill every available niche it can find with some sort of device. Well, the SGH-E888 is a tiny phone that weighs around 88 g / 0.19 lbs and measures only 87 x 47 x 23mm / 3.4 x 1.8 x 0.9 inch.

The phone arrives with 80MP of internal memory and also has an embedded swivel camera.

Modu Mobile

The Modu Mobile was named the world’s lightest phone until 2013 by the Guinness Book of World Records. The handset tips the scales at about 40 g / 0.08 lbs and measures only 72 x 37 x 7.8 mm / 2.83 x 1.45 x 0.30 inches.

Even so, due to its extreme shrunken size, users might be faced with difficulties when performing most mobile functions characteristic of phones.

In theory, you should be able to make calls, send SMS messages, play MP3s and take photos. For some of these functions, you might need to bring in some attachments which will bulk up the size of the whole shenanigan. Even so, the Modu Mobile still remains incredibly midgety.

BMW Key Fob Phone

This phone weighs a meager 35 g / 0.07 lbs, measures roughly 80 x 30 x 20 mm / 3.1 x 1.18 x 0.78 inches and sports the logo of iconic car company BMW.

The lilliputian device can be used to make calls and send texts but does not have 3G internal access.

But what’s more interesting about this phone is that its consumer base is mostly made up of criminals. The phone is said to have a very, very low metal content, so it’s perfect for ditching prison X-ray machines.

And given the phone’s tiny frame, it’s no surprise that it can be hidden basically anywhere.

Wilcom WX06A

This phone was launched in Japan and measures just 32 x 70 x 10.7 mm / 1.25 x 2.7 x 0.42, while weighing 32g / 0.07 lbs. Because it’s so small, the manufacturing company couldn’t put a camera on it and its minuscule battery only allows it to live for two hours.

Even so, users can text, make calls and send out emails. It also ships out with its own antenna so you can get better signal. However, its keys are so small that is hard to believe anyone could ever use them.
